Tombstone Taco Dip

Halloween is right around the corner, and with so many festivities I just couldn’t resist trying this adorable Tombstone Taco Dip from BHG.   How fun is this?  Just make your favorite layered taco dip and add a few frightful figures made out of flour tortillas – easy!  Such a simple way to create a “spooktacular” dish.

This is perfect for your Halloween Party Buffet or how about a Family Halloween Scary Movie Night -What’s your favorite Halloween Flick?  {I’m a pretty big scaredy cat . . .so most of mine are G-rated; I did love Hotel Transylvania. ;)}

Tombstone Taco Dip

Ingredients

2 (16 ounce) cans refried beans
1/4 cup salsa
1 package taco seasoning
1 cup sour cream
1 cup guacamole (make your own or purchased)
1 package shredded lettuce
1 can (2 1/4 ounce) chopped olives, drained
10 inch flour tortillas to make shapes*

Directions

Mix beans, salsa, and taco seasoning in a medium bowl.  Spread mixture in a 2-quart rectangular dish.  Layer with sour cream and guacamole.  (Keep the top layers thin so you have the bean mixture to sink your figures into.)

Place tortilla shapes into mixture.  Cover with shredded lettuce.  Form mounds of olives in front of tombstones.  Serve immediately with tortilla chips.

Note:  Just to keep things real . . . The figures will eventually get soggy.  The smaller ones are okay, but the tree will start to lean after a while.  I used a popsicle stick behind it to keep it standing. 🙂

*Tortilla Graveyard Characters
Using cookie cutters, or  x-acto knife, cut tombstones and any other figures such as the tree, fence rails, bats, cats, or owls. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 7-10 minutes or until firm and crisp. Cool on a rack.

Note: I used different flavored tortillas such as sundried tomato to get more color.  You’ll also want to cut them a little long so you have plenty of room to stick them down in the beans.

Happy Halloween!
