Christmas Coal

It was a couple of years ago that my kids learned about the idea behind coal at Christmas time. If you are found on the naughty list you may receive a stocking full of coal. So every year in December we use coal as a gentle reminder to correct behavior. Simply reminding our kids that Santa may leave only coal for those not showing appropriate behavior seems to help most of the time. So this year, I thought it might be fun to actually give my kids a little coal. This would make a fun gag gift or a delicious treat for anyone.

Christmas Coal

Ingredients:

1 package Oreo cookies, finely crushed
5 cups miniture marshmallows
4 Tbls. butter

Directions:

Place marshmallows and butter in a large microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high for 30 seconds to 1 minute or until marshmallows and butter are melted. Stir in the Oreo crumbs until well combined. Shape into desired shape and size to look like coal. Let cool.

*These can also be pressed into a greased 8×8 pan and then cut into squares.

  6. Danielle – it depends on the size you make them, but I’d say about 14-16 2 inch balls. These will be fun for a cookie exchange!!
