Katharine Hepburn Brownies

Katharine Hepburn Brownies 024

A good brownie recipe is essential to every family.  These Katharine Hepburn Brownies are not only fabulous- they are so quick and so easy, this may just become your go-to brownie recipe.

The story, as reported in the New York Times, is that this is Katharine Hepburn’s favorite brownie – the trick:  Don’t put in too much flour, and don’t over bake them.

I love that these brownies mix in one pot- easy!  I also love that they are loaded with walnuts – my personal favorite way to enjoy a brownie!  These brownies definitely live up to their All-Star heritage!

Ingredients

½ cup cocoa
1 stick butter
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
¼ cup flour
1 cup broken-up walnuts or pecans
1 teaspoon vanilla
pinch of salt

Directions

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

Melt butter in saucepan with cocoa and stir until smooth. Remove from heat and allow to cool for a few minutes. Whisk in eggs, one at a time. Stir in vanilla.

In a separate bowl, combine sugar, flour, nuts, and salt. Add to the cocoa-butter mixture. Stir until just combined.

Pour into a greased 8×8 square pan. Bake 30-35 minutes. Do not overbake; they should be gooey. Let cool, and cut into bars. (Note the original recipe bakes for 40 minutes, but that was too much in my oven.)

  1. These are really close to brownies I make, except I brown the butter before adding the cocoa powder.
    Use Hershey’s Special Dark.
And add a ganache topping for extra richness.
So I guess that would make them, NOT Katherine Hepburn’s brownies, eh?
    Super easy recipe, never fails.
